I've tried writing in different genres and recently presented a couple of short plays. Mostly I like poetry because it is something I can finish, unlike novels which seem to go on and on. I find being in a writers' group is very helpful as it forces me to present something every (well, almost every) fortnight and without that I just would not make the effort. Previously I used to sign up to part-time creative writing classes at the university every year until they were discontinued about three years back in 2012. I think as members we should bring two things to the meetings: our piece of writing and some critically ability. I am finding that making an effort to analyse other writers' works and learning to give constructive feedback can help my own writing.
